PSS provides the full range of psychological, behavioral, and educational services to clients including evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. These services are provided by a Ph.D. level licensed psychologist, Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) who is credentialed by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. We primarily service school-aged children (ages 3 to 22) with various exceptionalities. Our expertise includes behavior problems, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, mental retardation, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, emotional disturbances, learning disabilities, giftedness, and multiple disabilities. We also offer consultation, training, supervision, and coaching to parents, teachers, graduate students, and other professionals.

 

The National Register reviews the education and training of psychologist to identify those that meet its national standards as health service providers. For additional information, please refer to the National Register website.


 

To become a NCSP, school psychologists must meet standards for training and field placement, standards for credentialing, standards for the provision of school psychological services and principles for professional ethics. At minimum, the school psychologist must have completed at least 54 graduate semester hours, a 1200 hour internship in school psychology, and received a passing score on the National School Psychology Examination. Certification is renewed every three years with the completion of continuing education. For additional information, please refer to the NASP website.

 

To be licensed as a psychologist in the state of Rhode Island, individuals must have a doctorate in Psychology from an accredited college or university, two years of supervised internship, and a passing score on the Examination of Professional Practice in Psychology. Licensure is renewed every two years with the completion of continuing education. For additional information on licensure, please refer to the rules and regulations for licensing in Rhode Island.


Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA): The Board Certified Behavior Analyst conducts descriptive and systematic behavioral assessments and analyses the results. The BCBA is experienced in designing and supervising behavior analytic interventions. The BCBA must have at least a Masters degree, 225 hours of specific Graduate coursewoork, meet experience requirements, and pass the Behavior Analyst Certification Exam. In addition, BCBAs must accumulate continuing education credits to maintain their credentials.
