Many insurance companies will cover some or all of the services we offer.

What is your cancellation policy?
We request that you reschedule at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time. Otherwise, you may incur a fee for the missed appointment.

Do you accept insurance?
Psychological Support Services accepts Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island. However, many insurance companies will cover some or all of the services we offer. Please refer to your insurance policy to determine if you may be reimbursed should you accept services from a provider outside of your network of providers.

How much do you charge?
During the initial consultation, the doctor will be better able to determine what services will be appropriate for your particular case and circumstances. The doctor will discuss assessment and treatment options, fees, and the projected duration of services. At this time, Psychological Support Services is only accepting Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island. However, many insurance companies will cover some or all of the services we provide. Please refer to your insurance policy to determine what services are covered and what your options are for choosing a provider outside of your network of providers.

What occurs during the initial consultation?
The initial consultation is an opportunity to discuss your concerns. The psychologist will gather important information regarding your child's development, education, and medical and family history. This information will help the doctor determine the next step and the best course of action. The doctor will explain the types of services available and provide recommendations concerning your particular case.

How long will treatment take?
The duration of treatment varies depending on your case and particular circumstances. It is our goal to provide you with the tools necessary to continue implementing appropriate interventions at home and/or school.

What is the purpose of a psychological assessment?
Psychological assessments provide a scientific and objective method of gathering information concerning your child's abilities and skills. This information will help determine difficulties or problem areas and provide invaluable information concerning the best treatment options. A comprehensive assessment will include the evaluation of a child's cognitive functioning, academic performance, behavior, and social/emotional functioning. Additional assessments may be conducted, as necessary, to further explore strengths and weaknesses. Assessment information will be integrated and a written report will be provided, which includes a detailed analysis of information obtained with appropriate recommendations.

How long does an assessment usually take?
The assessment process usually requires several office visits. The number of visits varies depending on the nature of concerns, the developmental level of the child, the course of treatment, and a number of other factors.

What is the role of my child's school in testing?
Upon referral for special education services, a team of professionals and the parent, will meet to determine if a special education evaluation is needed. If the team deems it necessary, a comprehensive evaluation will be conducted by the school psychologist and the team will meet again to determine qualification for special education and related services. If you are the parent of a child with a disability, you have the right to obtain an independent evaluation at public expense, if you disagree with the school evaluation. If a parent obtains an independent evaluation at private expense, the results of the evaluation must be considered by the school when making educational decisions. For additional information regarding regulations please visit the Rhode Island Department of Education. At Psychological Support Services, testing information is confidential and will not be shared unless the parent or guardian authorizes its release.

Do public and private schools accept your evaluation reports to determine eligibility for special education services?
Psychological Support Services follows best practices for evaluation in psychology and education. However, eligibility for special education services is determined by the educational team, including the parent. We are more than willing to meet with you and school personnel to present and explain our findings. We will also help with the intervention process so long as all parties involved agree to accept our services. For additional information, please refer to the Rhode Island Department of Education.

We disagree with the conclusions based upon testing conducted at our child's school. Can you help?
Yes. Psychological Support Services provides consultation services including the review of previous assessments and re-evaluation services. We are more than willing to meet with you and school personnel to present and explain our findings. We will also help with the intervention process so long as all parties involved agree to accept our services.
