Assessments

assessmentsPsychological assessments are conducted by trained professionals and aid the development of effective educational and behavioral interventions. Psychological assessments involve the use of formal and informal psychological tests and procedures. All procedures are scientific and research-based. A comprehensive assessment typically includes observations, interviews, measures of intelligence, academic achievement, psychological processing, and social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. The information gathered from these assessments is integrated and presented in a psychological report.

Types of assessments include but are not limited to:
  • Learning Aptitudes/Intelligence/Cognition
  • Academic Achievement
  • Adaptive Behavior
  • Social Skills
  • Functional Behavior Assessment
  • Personality and Emotional Development
  • Information Processing
  • Language Processing
  • Visual-Motor Development
  • Executive Functioning (i.e., attention, impulse control, planning)

  • Consultations

consultationsConsultation involves working collaboratively with parents, teachers, and professionals to identify problems, offer guidance, explore treatment options, and develop interventions. Consultation is an indirect service provided by an expert consultant after observing the child, program, and/or intervention. There are several different models of consultation.

Types of consultations include but are not limited to:
  • Behavioral Consultation
  • Mental Health Consultation
  • Crisis Consultation
  • Organizational Consultation

  • Interventions

interventionsA variety of assessment instruments in combination with observations and parent and teacher interviews are used to determine problem areas, establish goals, and develop treatment plans. Interventions include all of the behavioral and educational treatment modalities that may be used to resolve a particular difficulty. Interventions may be direct or indirect. Since no single intervention can work effectively for all children, a broad range of interventions designed to address the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of the client may be implemented. Generally, interventions address inappropriate behaviors while teaching appropriate replacement behaviors across settings.

Types of interventions include but are not limited to:
  • Environmental Modifications
  • Placement
  • Counseling
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Behavior Interventions
  • Tutoring

  • Training

trainingsTraining is offered on a variety of topics to further assist parents, educators, and others in understanding the child and the different intervention approaches available. We encourage parents to become active participants in their child's treatment plan so that they may learn how to interact with their child in a manner conducive to treatment and so that skill generalization can occur. Training also allows the parent, teacher, or other professional to continue implementing appropriate strategies once treatment has ended. If desired, a PSS staff member can provide continued supervisory and/or consultative services.

Types of trainings include but are not limited to:
  • Social Skills Training
  • Functional Behavioral Assessments
  • Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Preference Assessments
  • Instructional Strategies
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Anger Management Training
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Mental Retardation
  • Parenting Strategies
